There are many ways to win a salary-cap week. There is the disciplined build, the contrarian build, the late-swap masterpiece, and the oldest strategy in fantasy sports: have DeVonta Smith catch everything while the other contender watches Kayshon Boutte score 5.2.

Daniel-1A2JAF finished first at 139.38 and takes the $55 weekly prize. KaeptainMICHAEL finished second at 138.40. The margin was 0.98, which is less a victory lap than a successful escape through an airport bathroom window.

Week 2 final. Daniel-1A2JAF gets the gold box and the $55; vu-INAL gets the red box and the strike. All 11 lineups finished at zero PMR.

The $55 came down to pocket change

Daniel got 24.08 from Bryce Young, 20.8 from Kenneth Walker III, 22.7 from DeVonta Smith and 20 from Dalton Schultz. The Rams defense added 11. Even the weak spots were survivable: Bhayshul Tuten gave him 13.2 and Garrett Wilson added 14.2. Colston Loveland’s 0.8 tried to leave the back door open, but the rest of the lineup stacked furniture against it.

That deserves praise. It also deserves the required audit from the League Office of Irritating Luck. Smith turned 13 targets into 10 catches, 117 yards and a touchdown. Schultz caught 12 balls for 140 yards. Young threw three touchdowns. When three different parts of a lineup decide to have their best afternoon together, that is not roster construction. That is a slot machine apologizing.

KaeptainMICHAEL had the lineup that usually wins this thing: Davante Adams for 35.5, Jonathan Taylor for 27.2, Drew Lock for 21.4 and Walker for 20.8. Those four produced 104.9 by themselves. Then Cam Skattebo, Boutte, Mark Andrews and the Eagles defense combined to turn a parade into a 0.98-point condolence card. Second place did almost everything right, which is the cruelest kind of wrong.

The podium had its own emergency meeting

hieu-3S3PB, 132.22. Josh Allen dropped 40.82, Carolina’s defense detonated for 25, and Schultz supplied another 20. That is 85.82 from three slots. DJ Moore answered with minus-0.1 and Mike Gesicki supplied a clean zero. Hieu found three jackpots and still finished third because two lineup spots became decorative.

Twomp, 130.52. Allen, Walker and Carolina’s defense all hit. Jahmyr Gibbs added 20.3. Then Rome Odunze scored 5.8, Boutte scored 5.2, Deebo Samuel Sr. scored 5, and Gesicki scored zero. This was a very expensive lesson in how four heaters can be forced to drag five folding chairs.

gary-41TUQ, 125.28. Jaxon Smith-Njigba’s 38 was the whole fireworks permit. Walker and Schultz did their part, but Baker Mayfield’s 13.18 and Loveland’s 0.8 kept the ceiling low. Gary beat steven-4MF6E, 125.06 by 0.22, the fantasy equivalent of winning a parking space because the other car forgot to straighten the wheel.

Steven got 29.76 from Dak Prescott, 20.4 from James Cook III, 20.3 from Gibbs and 19.2 from Stefon Diggs. Tampa Bay’s defense brought back 2 and Loveland brought back 0.8. Sixth place is what happens when the stars file the paperwork and the cheap slots eat the paperwork.

The middle class and the trapdoor

Jon-12N2G7, 119.82. Allen’s 40.82 and Adams’ 35.5 covered a lot of sins. Kaelon Black, Pat Bryant and Dallas Goedert combined for 5.0, which is less a supporting cast than an unpaid internship.

dan-8EDQG, 102.78. Brock Purdy delivered 28.48, Ja’Marr Chase scored 23 and Dalton Kincaid added 19. The rest of the lineup made sure nobody confused eighth place with recovery. Alvin Kamara had 4.7, Keenan Allen had 1, and Kansas City’s defense had 1. The basement was avoided. No champagne was authorized.

VoBster, 97.18. James Cook III, Rashod Bateman and Jaylen Waddle did enough to build a respectable score. Malik Willis gave 12.48, David Montgomery gave 3.4, and the lineup landed ninth. It was not the strike. It was merely close enough to hear the trapdoor creak.

sjslacker, 95.24. Survival came by 5.06 points. Stefon Diggs scored 19.2 and Walker scored 20.8. Jayden Daniels had 14.74 before leaving Washington’s game late in the first half with an elbow injury. That was rotten luck, not a lineup sin, and it nearly decided the bottom. The score held anyway. Tenth place gets no ribbon, but it also gets no strike.

vu-INAL, 90.18 — Week 2 strike. Bryce Young’s 24.08 was good. Chuba Hubbard’s 13.4 and Christian Watson’s 12.1 were usable. The trouble was everywhere the lineup needed one more adult: Jacory Croskey-Merritt 5.3, Pat Freiermuth 5.4, Matthew Golden 7.8, and Kansas City’s defense 1. The Week 1 high scorer just completed the penthouse-to-basement speedrun. That is the Eliminator experience: one week the room owes dinner; the next week the floor opens.

The injury tax

Daniels was the direct hit on this board. Washington ruled him out after the elbow injury, leaving sjslacker with 14.74 from the quarterback slot. Chicago also lost Caleb Williams to a hamstring injury; the lineups carrying Odunze and Loveland got 5.8 and 0.8 from those pass catchers. Those are injuries, not managerial punchlines. The joke stays with the fantasy scoreboard, where bad timing already did enough work.

The ruling

Week 2 calls for one strike, and it belongs to vu-INAL. Nobody is out of the season pot; elimination requires a third strike. Daniel gets the $55, KaeptainMICHAEL gets the 0.98-point scar, and sjslacker gets to step away from the red box without making eye contact.

Two weeks down. The standings have already produced a weekly winner who became the next week’s strike. This league does not have momentum. It has a revolving door with a loose hinge.
